Emma LaMorte’s textile works, performances, texts and installations react to given spaces and architectural structures in order to supplement, alienate or conceal them. Under the title Aussicht, she showed an extensive installation made of fabric panels at the Kölnischer Kunstverein. In this context the artist presented the collaborative project Live Narration together with Rosa Aiello, Benjamin Marvin and LNS. Using an overhead projector, images of light, shadow and color were created and projected on site, illustrating and commenting on the live mixed soundscape of music and speech.
For her Jahresgabe, Emma LaMorte draws on extracted stills from the video documentation of that performance at the Kölnischer Kunstverein and prints them on silk. In this way she not only fixes a live moment, but also brings the collage back to the textile material that is common in her practice.
Emma LaMorte (*1984 in Victoria B.C., Canada, lives Berlin) received a Master of Fine Arts at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, Sweden.
