Lawrence Weiner: Zeit ist Zeitlich – Time is Temporal (Vereinsgabe 2014), silkscreen in three colours on cardboard with punched holes, 35 x 35 cm, signed and dated on the reverse side
After the great success of Rosemarie Trockel’s “member’s edition”, the internationally celebrated artist Lawrence Weiner has produced this year’s edition on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the Kölnischer Kunstverein, which – as in 2013 – will be available to the members of the institution. The work “Zeit ist Zeitlich – Time is Temporal” is a metaphor that can be interpreted in a variety of ways for the earthliness and finiteness of time and being. Weiner, who was born in 1942, is regarded as one of the co-founders of conceptual art. His works were presented at the Venice Biennale as well as at the Documenta in Kassel. His works are also an integral part of international museum collections. Lawrence Weiner recently received the Roswitha Haftmann Prize. You can find more information about this HERE.
In autumn 2013, the Kölnischer Kunstverein initiated an extraordinary project that builds a bridge between the historical traditions of German art associations and the present. Following the tradition of “Nietenblätter”, which was widespread in the 19th century, a so-called “Vereinsgabe” (member’s edition) will be published, which will be made available to the members of the Kölnischer Kunstverein. The Vereinsgabe 2013 was provided by Rosemarie Trockel.
