“I have little memory of my earliest childhood. There are some drawings and children’s books. My first Brockhaus is one of the few books I remember. My EX LIBRIS is my impossible attempt to remember my own childhood.” (G.S.)
Since the eighties, the artist has been concerned with the construction of spaces, with the complex relationship between constructed space and individual, and with the interaction between place and state.

In 2001 he represented Germany at the 49th Venice Biennale, where he was awarded the Golden Lion.
