With an interest in architecture, fashion, textiles, and color, Hilary Lloyd’s work focuses primarily on film and video, but sculpture, painting, and installation take also part of her practice. In direct confrontation with the production or exhibition sites, the films defy conventional notions of “duration” and instead present film tableaux. Some get by almost without any movement or events, while others use methods of rapid camera panning or shifts in position. The work positions itself in the field of tension between an ambiguous, seemingly casual theme and a precise arrangement of images and installation material. Lloyd has created new works for the Kunstverein’s Jahresgaben, which she describes as “London scenes”.

Hilary Lloyd was born in 1964 in Halifax, Great Britain. She lives and works in London.
Her work has been shown in solo exhibitions at Focal Point Gallery, Southend-on-Sea (2017); Wilsey Court, de Young Museum, San Francisco (2016); Sadie Coles HQ, London (2016) and at the Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel (2012), among others, and in the group exhibitions Zwarte Zaal, KASK, Gent, Belgium (2018); Bonner Kunstverein (2017) and Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester (2016).
